Crime & Public Safety
● Officer Retention & Recruitment: Our officers are overworked and underappreciated. I will work to increase officer pay, improve benefits, and recruit qualified new officers to serve and protect Meridian.
● Leadership in the Police Department: We need strong, independent leadership. I will ensure Meridian has a capable police chief committed to long-term safety improvements and building a police force that works for the people.
● Collaborative Approach & Technology: I’ll invest in modern technology and form partnerships with local, county, and state agencies, like the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, to tackle high-crime areas and reduce violence.
Economic Development
● Job Creation: My administration will attract new businesses and provide support for local entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for all residents.
● Quality of Life: Economic development is more than just jobs. We’ll enhance public services, foster community engagement, and ensure every voice in Meridian is heard.
● Revitalization of Communities: I’m committed to investing in inner-city and downtown areas, providing affordable housing, supporting business development, and creating community centers that foster pride and opportunity.

● Visibility & Communication: As mayor, I will be present, accessible, and accountable. I believe in strong leadership that listens to the people and tackles challenges head-on.
● Transparency in Government: Meridian deserves transparency in how tax dollars are spent. I will implement clear budgeting policies to ensure public trust.
● Effective Leadership in Crisis: I’ve demonstrated strong leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I’ll continue to bring decisive action in times of crisis.

Percy Bland, a dedicated public servant running for Mayor of Meridian, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in infrastructure, community development, public safety, economic growth, and public services. Under his leadership, the city has seen significant improvements in infrastructure, such as the completion of major paving projects and the LED Lighting Project, which have enhanced visibility and safety. Bland's commitment to community enhancement is further demonstrated through his role in the MDOT Streetscape and Downtown Drainage projects, as well as his collaborative efforts to develop the I-20/59 Industrial Park and revitalize the Historic Elmwood African American Veteran’s Cemetery.
Bland's impact extends to community and public safety, where he has successfully raised the minimum wage for city employees, increased salaries for police and fire department personnel, and implemented initiatives to reduce crime, resulting in Meridian's lowest recorded crime rate since pre-1984. His strategic contributions to economic growth include hosting the Governor Job Fair and supporting key developments like the Newks/Threefoot Building and Hobby Lobby. Additionally, Bland promotes sustainable growth through projects like restoring public transportation and adopting international property maintenance codes. His dedication to education and the arts, coupled with strategic financial planning and successful grant acquisition, positions Bland as an ideal candidate to continue leading Meridian towards a vibrant and prosperous future. refinancing and securing significant grants, underscores his ability to drive economic growth.
